Julio* Montaner was born
in Argentina in 1956.
He came to B.C.
to study in the 1980s.
* Say – hoo-lee-oh

He worked at St. Paul’s Hospital.
There, Julio met his wife.
So he stayed in Canada.
And he became a doctor.

For 30 years,
Julio has helped people
with HIV/AIDS.
Julio started a new therapy.
And he saved many lives.

From 1997 to 2013,
deaths from AIDS in B.C.
dropped by 87 per cent.

HIV/AIDS in the world
This year, the UN has started
to use Julio’s therapy.
About 35 million people
live with HIV/AIDS.
