Al Carder was born in Calgary, Alberta.
But he lived in B.C. for many years.
Al loved trees.
He also studied old trees.
The trees are 250 to 1,000 years old.

Giant trees
The old trees are very big and tall.
Some are four metres (13 feet) wide
and 70 metres (226 feet) tall.

Tree hugger
Sometimes these old,
giant trees are cut.
B.C. sells the wood.
Al protected* these trees.
He wrote books
about giant trees.
And he won awards.
People called Al Carder
“B.C.’s oldest tree hugger.”
Al was 104 years old.
