Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is important. Children learn and develop through fun family activities that include reading and learning.

For the entire month of January, families in BC are encouraged to learn together.

Learn about the importance of reading and doing other literacy-related activities as a family. Even just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills. Parents will improve their skills at the same time.

Communities in BC host informal learning events at community centres, schools, and libraries. Events include story-telling, face painting, belly dancing, magic shows, and displays.

On January 27, we celebrate literacy on Family Literacy Day. Family Literacy Day is a time to raise awareness about literacy. ABC Life Literacy Canada started the idea in 1999.

Family Literacy Day is held on January 27 every year.
