New Canadian Apple

The UBC Apple Festival took place on Saturday, October 13.
There were 77 varieties of apples to taste.
People could vote for their favourites.
The name of the new apple is The Salish (TM).
The Salish (TM) apple is named for the Canadian Interior language
of Thompson, Okanagan-Colville, and Shuswap.
This apple took almost 30 years to develop.
Until now its name was SPA 493.

The national apple breeding program is based in Summerland B.C.
This program began in 1924.
