Announcing a writing contest for learners
Deadline:    April 15, 2014

Here’s how to enter:
Write a story.
Use up to 150 words.
You may add a picture or drawing. A picture is not necessary to enter. It is optional.
Email us:

  • your story
  • your entry form
  • your picture (optional)
  • a permission form for people in your picture (if including a photo).
Complete contest information and forms

Story ideas:
You can pick any topic you want. Here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Tell about a time when you lost something.
2. Tell about one of your fondest childhood memories.
3. Tell about a time when you were treated unfairly.
4. Tell about a time when you were treated well.
5. Tell about something you made.
6. Tell about a “close call” you had recently.
7. Tell about something you wish had never happened.
8. Tell about the first time you did something.
9. Tell about your first day in Canada.
10. Tell about a hero you know.

Pictures (optional):
You may include a picture.
The picture can be a photo or a drawing.
Follow these instructions when you send a picture:

  1. Photos must be high resolution or 300dpi.
  2. All people in the photos must sign a permission form.

The prizes:
For the stories:  The three best stories will each receive a $10.00 gift card to a favourite coffee shop.
For the instructor: The instructor or tutor who helps the most learners to enter the contest will win a $10.00 gift card to a favourite coffee shop.

The winners will be published in the June 2014 issue of The Westcoast Reader.
