Remembering Barbara Howard

At 27, she became the first Black woman to race for Canada.

Howard wanted to race in the Olympics, but the Second World War stopped the Games.

She taught gym for 33 years.

In 1959, Howard graduated from the Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Education degree.

She died in 2017. She was 106 years old.

Vancouver renamed a park “Barbara Howard Plaza” to remember her.
